After a pandemic-ravaged 2020, this year breathed new life, bounteous campaigns, and history-making successes from our athletes. Truly, it was a coming-out party for the Filipinos.  Not only did the year reap the nation some incredible triumphs on the international scene, but it also showcased a bunch of rising stars for Philippine sports as young phenoms across the board made their own mark alongside grizzled Filipinos who, similarly, made the year as fruitful as it has been.  Some dreams materialized, some bid goodbyes, some came to light once more, and some made moments to remember forever. "The last time I visited was December 19, 3 days after the typhoon and it was still very bad," she added.  During her first survey of the province on December 19, the presidential candidate had already expressed difficulties faced by the islands after the typhoon hit.  "Their food is already running out. They do not have electricity, water, and any means of communication," Robredo wrote. "Various places could not be accessed by cars because of fallen posts and trees. We had to ride motorcycles in order to move around, " she explained further.  After the initia...

Continuation ng 2021 'Year of Breakups'? 2022 is 'year of separation', Feng shui expert warns

Image
By Rjay Zuriaga Castor PHOTO: Blogspot “I said in 2021 that it is a year of break-up. The year 2022 is a year of separation." This is what the world-renowned and dubbed "Queen of Feng Shui" Marites Allen has said in an online streamed Feng Shui forecast on December 26 and 27.  In the Chinese zodiac cycle, 2022 is the "Year Water Tiger", to which Allen reckoned has a  destiny chart marked by heavy wood and water elements, a little fire and earth— and has a total absence of metal elements.  “[The] missing metal element infers in people to act and move more independently. Thus, there will be more division rather than partnership. Metal is a magnet and represents connection — connecting people," Allen reiterated.  "And therefore, its absence in 2022 will indicate many forms of separation… And so I declare the Year 2022 as a year of separation," she added, suggesting the wearing of metal mantra elements to remain lucky. To recall, Allen stressed 2021 ...

The Filipino Polymath

Image
By Carlos Manuel Eusoya PHOTO: Knights of Rizal When you hear of Dr. Jose Rizal’s name, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? A powerful writer? An empowering hero? Rizal is best known for his written literary works that inspired Filipinos during the era of Spanish colonization. However, Rizal was more than just an author. The hero’s extensive scope of knowledge makes him a polymath - a learned individual who is intelligent in numerous subjects. For example, Rizal was a sculptor, a painter, and an innovator. He also exemplified skills in many fields of sciences such as medicine, ophthalmology, and biology. As we celebrate Rizal Day, let us revisit the four greatest scientific accomplishments of the Filipino Polymath. 1. Rizal prevented a deadly disease from spreading globally. While he was exiled in Dapitan, Rizal managed to collect a snail specimen. Rizal sent the sample to German naturalist Otto Franz von Möllendorff, who identified the snail as a new species and named it ...

Feng shui expert Hanz Cua shares some lucky tips for greeting 2022

Image
By Carlos Jimwell Aquino PHOTO: ABS-CBN Despite the backlash he received last year for his 'prosperous' predictions for 2020, Feng Shui master Hanz Cua still gave some advice on how to welcome luck in 2022. In a Facebook post, he suggested that it is good to wear red clothes on December 31 and January 1 in order to attract money luck. He said that yellow gold should be the theme color of offices and homes, and he encouraged opening all the lights inside the house to attract prosperity since the fire element is bright light. Also, he recommended conducting general cleaning before the year 2022 arrives, and throwing away the broken, old, and cluttered for good fortune to enter. As per Cua's advice, you should also change the curtains in the house with color red, yellow, orange or pink. Single people should use pink pillowcases and bed sheets, whereas married people should use red. Since next year is the year of the Water Tiger, he suggested displaying a tiger in the center of...
