Marcos urges LGUs to have designated fireworks display areas

Image
By Daine Mariel G. Chua Amidst the downtrend in the tally of injuries, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged local government units (LGUs) to organize community fireworks displays instead to lessen firecracker-related injuries, reminding the public of the dangers of using explosives ahead of the New Year celebrations. Photo Courtesy of Reuters/Office of the Press Secretary In a video released by the Office of the Press Secretary on Thursday, December 22, Marcos suggested having a common area for a fireworks display instead of letting their constituents have their own firecrackers exhibit. “I will enjoin the LGUs, instead of allowing our people to have their own firecrackers, gumawa na lang kayo ng magandang fireworks display para sa inyong mga constituent,” the president said. A police-licensed and trained person will supervise the proposed community display as stated in Executive Order (EO) No. 28, which provides regulation and control of the use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic d...

EXPLAINER | Paano magparehistro ng SIM card?

Image
Batay sa RA 7925, inilarawan ang PTEs bilang “any person, firm, partnership or corporation, government or private, engaged in the provision of telecommunications services to the public for compensation.”

“When you are a taxonomist and are mentioned in Rolling Stone… you know you have arrived," saad nito.

Nurses urge P50K wage hike vs exodus threat

Image
By Arjane Faith Paala Photo courtesy by North Estonia Medical Center/Ted Aljibe A group of Filipino nurses is calling for a raise in their monthly salary to P50,000, following New Zealand’s permanent residency offer to medical workers which they deem threatening to the Philippines’ healthcare system. According to the Filipino Nurses United (FNU), the increasing amount of better job opportunities and working conditions from foreign countries will undoubtedly trigger the influx of nurse emigrants. To prevent the foreseen crisis, the organization demands the government, apart from increasing their salary, to also mass hire additional 52,000 nurses in public health and in hospitals and to regularize contractual nurses. “The Philippines has adequate nurses for our own people if only the government will prioritize health care in the national budget and place the retention scheme of P50k living wage and ensure the promised benefits such as One COVID allowance [OCA] and Health Emergency Al...

Image
By Ernesto Nodado III When a glimpse of a heartbreaking Finals loss from their Katipunan rivals flashed before them, Ange Kouame and company proved their metal stronger this time. Ateneo Blue Eagles clawed their way back to reclaim their UAAP crown after weathering the UP Fighting Maroons' second-half surge, 75-68, in the winner-takes-all Game 3 of the Season 85 Men’s Basketball Finals at the Big Dome, Monday evening.  Photo Courtesy of PTV Sports With UP staging another Game 3 comeback after a gutsy 18-4 run, Kouame led the way by creating shots in the inside and forcing Carl Tamayo on tough sets to spoil the defending champs' potential comeback. The Gilas naturalized center polished off his cemented collegiate career with a Finals MVP award as he registered a double-double performance of 19 points and 12 rebounds, while denying four shots as well. "It was really tough when you’re in the inside game, you try to overcome that,” said Kouame in the on-court interview. Gab Go...
