SGA looked in full control after building a commanding 87–64 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Malaysia mounted a spirited comeback in the final frame.

Led by Steven Green’s explosive 50-point outburst and Chun Hong Ting’s 24-point showing, the Malaysians rallied with a 20–10 run, trimming the deficit to just 13, 97–84, with only minutes remaining.

Even so, the Philippines’ early dominance proved too much to overcome.

With Andre Roberson playing on limited minutes and Tajuan Agee sitting out of the game entirely, DJ Fenner took the reins on SGA’s offense, finishing with 20 points after delivering timely buckets to successfully leave the Malaysians behind.

In addition, Fenner got plenty of help from Kiefer Ravena who fired up 17 points on four beyond the arc shots, and Allen Liwag who added 16.

Dave Ildefonso contributed 13 points, alongside the tower presence of Ange Kouame and Geo Chiu’s 12 and 11 buckets, respectively.

Now holding a 6-0 record, Strong Group will face fellow top-seeded foe Bahrain with six wins and one loss tomorrow, July 19 (Philippine time).

“Now all focus for us is our game tomorrow against Bahrain, our championship game,” coach Charles Tiu said.

On the other hand, Malaysia dropped to 2–4 record, absorbing another defeat in the tournament.
